Mansfield man charged after 'spitting' at police while claiming he had Coronavirus

Paul Leivers, 48, of Tideswell Court, Mansfield, has been charged with two counts of assault of an emergency worker.

Chief Superintendent Rob Griffin, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The officers involved in this alleged incident are safe and well.
“We will not tolerate anyone who deliberately coughs on or spits at our officers as they continue to carry out their vital duties, especially during these difficult and challenging times.
"We’re urging people we engage with to act responsibly and allow us to do our jobs safely as we all work together to tackle the Coronavirus pandemic.”

Hide AdThis news comes after five more patients die from coronavirus at Sherwood Forest Hospitals and the UK death toll hit 759 with patients being aged between 29 and 98 years old and all but four patients (aged between 82 and 91 years old) had underlying health conditions.
The charges on Leivers came after officers were called to a report of an incident at an address in Mansfield on Thursday March, 26.
Leivers was arrested on suspicion of assault in relation to this incident and was taken into custody. He has since been released on conditional bail in relation to this matter.
