Mansfield man charged after police 'threatened with plank'

A Mansfield man has been charged with weapons offences after police officers were threatened with a plank of wood.

The incident took place in Leeming Street shortly before 1am on Saturday (September 7) after officers spotted a man involved in a confrontation with a group of people.

As they approached the man they were threatened with the weapon but still managed to arrest him.

Gavin Johnson, 41, of Rosemary Street, Mansfield, has been charged with using threatening, abusive and insulting words in a public place with intent to cause fear of violence.

He has also been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

Inspector Nick Butler, district commander for Mansfield, said: “This was a challenging incident to deal with and I would like to commend the professionalism and bravery of officers who brought it to a safe conclusion so quickly.”
