Mansfield man arrested after assault on emergency worker

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, assault of an emergency worker and criminal damage.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called to Woodhouse Road in Mansfield at around 8.30pm yesterday (May 31) to a report that a man had been punched in the chest.

The man was later arrested on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker and criminal damage after a custody sergeant was kicked in the leg and a book of police regulations was damaged.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Moore, who is investigating the incident, said: “Violence of any kind is completely unacceptable, including when it is directed at police officers who are simply trying to do their jobs.

“This is not something which should be considered a part of being a police officer and we will do all we can to investigate when either emergency workers or members of the public victims of violence.”

The man has been released on police bail.
