Mansfield hospitals' coronavirus fatalities increase as seven more patients lose their lives to deadly virus

The day after the UK surpassed 100,000 Covid-19 deaths, a further seven patients across Mansfield hospitals are confirmed to have lost their lives to coronavirus.

Latest daily statistics reveal that a further seven people who had tested positive for the virus have now died while being cared for by Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The most recent seven patient fatalities took place across Mansfield Community Hospital, Newark Hospital and King’s Mill Hospital in Sutton – increasing the trust’s total coronavirus deaths to 425.

NHS England figures out this afternoon (January 27) show 973 deaths in hospitals across England were recorded in the 24 hours to 4pm on Tuesday, January 26 – bringing the total number of fatalities across the country’s hospitals up to 68,894.

It comes after the UK officially surpassed over 100,000 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic first hit, yesterday (January 26).

Of the 973 most recently recorded deaths, patients were aged between 29 and 103 and all except 50 people – aged between 32 and 98 – had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths took place between November 18 and January 26, with the majority being on or after January 21.

NHS England’s latest data represents the deaths of hospital patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose fatalities were recorded in the latest reporting period.

However there were also 48 other deaths reported where patients had no positive coronavirus test result.

A total of 200 patients across all settings in Mansfield have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to Wednesday, January 27, according to Government health data.

The number of virus related fatalities in all settings in Mansfield equates to 183 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began last year, with the highest daily total being seven deaths on three separate days – January 12, 20 and 22, 2021.

Separate data from the Office for National Statistics shows there have been a total of 182 deaths recorded in Mansfield where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes, registered up to January 15 of this year.
