A drug addict who impulsively stole bottles of vodka to ease the pain of his withdrawal symptoms was handed a two-month suspended sentence.

Lee Patrick Harvey (36) of Tideswell Court, Mansfield, took the three bottles from B&M, but was spotted on CCTV.

He was arrested two days later.

Admitting theft at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court, a probation report detailed how had been struck off a methadone programme - the drug prescribed to ease heroin addiction - because he had missed appointments.

He said he had gone in to buy biscuits, but then spotted the vodka and decided to steal three bottles.
