Mansfield burglar whole stole from elderly couple jailed after fingerprints found at scene

A Mansfield burglar has been jailed for two and a half years after forensic evidence linked him to the scene.

Jamie Intress, of no fixed address, was found guilty of burglary following a two-day trial held at Nottingham Crown Court on February 20.

The 32-year-old pleaded not guilty.

Intress entered a property through an insecure back door and stole two mobile phones, as well as a Samsung TV, from a house on Eakring Road in July 2019.

An elderly couple went to bed that evening, but were woken by noises coming from the lounge at around 5am.

The victims went to investigate and was confronted by two figures who quickly made their escape.

They discovered a number of items being stolen including a laptop, binoculars, gift vouchers and money.

Crime scene investigation officers attended and during their investigations recovered fingerprints from the external door handle. These prints were identified as Intress'.

The victims said at the time: “It is a horrible feeling not to feel secure in your own home that you have worked hard for."

DC Louise Foster who led the investigation said: "We hope the result brings closure to the victims.

"Intress has always denied that he was inside the property, despite officers finding his fingerprints at the scene.

"I hope the sentence sends a clear message out to those engaged in this type of offending that the police and the courts treat burglary offences extremely seriously and if caught you expect a jail sentence."
