Man repeatedly punched in unprovoked attack in Mansfield town centre

A man was taken to hospital after he was repeatedly punched and then kneed in the head as he walked home with friends in Mansfield.

Police are hunting two men after they jumped over a central reservation railing and beat up the victim for no apparent reason.

The unprovoked attack happened in Rosemary Street at around 1am on Saturday, 17 July.

The victim was left with swollen eyes and cuts to his face. He was taken to hospital and discharged later that morning.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

Superintendent Kevin Broadhead, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a very nasty and unprovoked assault that could easily have had tragic consequences.

“It was only through pure luck that the attackers did not inflict more serious injuries.”
