Man jailed after Mansfield incident

A man has been jailed for more than four months after admitting a string of offences.

Officers attended a house in Mansfield on October 18 after receiving a report of a disturbance.

Police arrested 45-year-old Jason Smith on suspicion of criminal damage in Lindley Street.

While he was in custody he was searched and found to be in possession of a bladed article and an offensive weapon, which he was further arrested for.

Smith, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a bladed article and criminal damage after appearing at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on October 20.

He was jailed for a total of 146 days.

Police Sergeant Carl Holland said: “Nottinghamshire Police takes knife crime very seriously and we will thoroughly investigate any incident reported to the force.

“If you are a victim of knife crime or witness something suspicious in your area, call 101 or, in an emergency, dial 999.”
