Man jailed after attempting to steal car from drive in Mansfield

A man who ran off after he was caught attempting to steal a car off a drive in Mansfield has been jailed for more than two years.

Randle McKenzie, 22, of Noel Street, Mansfield, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday (16 March).

Nottinghamshire Police were called to Bell View, Mansfield, at around 5am on Monday February 3 2020, when McKenzie was reported to have entered a house, taken the occupant’s car keys and attempted to take a car.

A man confronted McKenzie, who then fled the scene.

Hours later, a garden shed was reported to have been broken into on Cliff Street Mansfield, when officers attended, they conducted a search in the area.

McKenzie was then arrested while he searching through a garden shed of different house in Cliff Street.

Detective Constable Caroline Bailey, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Nottinghamshire Police takes burglary incredibly seriously and will investigate all reports thoroughly.

“Excellent police work led to the arrest, charge and conviction of McKenzie.

“Breaking into a property can be terrifying for the house occupants and I’d like to commend the bravery of the victim to confront McKenzie and provide us with a strong description.”

McKenzie was given a 29 month sentence for burglary and possession of mamba which was recovered on him when arrested.
