A man who planted two seeds he found in a bag of cannabis was forced to pay out more than £400 in fines and costs.
James Godley, 31, of Egmanton Road, Meden Vale, appeared before Mansfield Magistrates’ Court and admitted producing the class B drug.
He told police that he had been surprised that the seeds had even grown, but had been intending to smoke them himself.
The police had gone to visit Godley over a dispute with his former partner and found the plants at the back of his home.
The court was told how Godley had been a cannabis user but had since quit the drug.
He was fined £120 and made to pay £285 in costs.
