Man charged with series of shop robberies and thefts in Newark and Southwell

Police investigating a series of robberies and thefts at shops across the Newark and Southwell areas have charged a 35-year-old man.

The alleged thief will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, 16 November, charged with three robberies, four shop thefts and an attempted burglary.

The offences include: Two robberies at Costcutter on Hawton Road, Newark, on 5 and 10 November. Two shop thefts at Heron Foods, in Jersey Street, Newark, on 4 and 10 November.

A further shop theft at Co-op in Leeway Road, Southwell, on 13 October. A finally, another shop theft at Co-op, in Ropewalk, Southwell, on 10 October.

Detective Sergeant Rick Ellis, who is leading the investigation, said: "Today's charges follow a determined investigation into a series of robberies, thefts and an attempted burglary, all involving shops in the Newark and Southwell areas.

"Nottinghamshire Police takes these types of offences seriously and will always strive to put suspects before the courts."
