Man charged over 'terrifying' Mansfield knife-waving incident

A man as been charged over a report of a person allegedly waving a knife at people in a Mansfield street.

Plain clothed Mansfield Reacher officers were called to Chesterfield Road North in the early hours of Saturday morning (14 November 2020).

A short time later they arrested a man inside the property and recovered a knife. No reports of injuries were received.

Police Sergeant Carl Holland said: "This was a terrifying incident for the officers who were on a plain clothed patrol in a known hot spot area of Mansfield.

"Nottinghamshire Police takes knife crime very seriously and we will thoroughly investigate any incident reported to the force.

Jamie Smith, 32, of Chesterfield Road North has been charged with threatening behaviour and possession of a bladed article.

He has been bailed to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 14 December 2020.
