Man arrested on suspicion of endangering life in Mansfield ‘arson’

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire in Mansfield.

Officers were called to a house on Frederick Street in the town at around 9.25pm on Friday night (May 29) following a reports of a fire.

Residents had reported a smell of smoke and fumes were said to be entering the property.

No one was injured in the fire but police quickly located a suspect nearby and arrested him on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Lead investigator Detective Sergeant Mark Shaw of Nottinghamshire Police said: "There is currently a scene on at the address to allow for a fire investigation this morning.

"Officers quickly made an arrest of a 19-year-old man. He remains in police custody.

"We aren't looking for anyone else at this stage. Thankfully there weren't any serious injuries."
