Man arrested on suspicion of burglary and drug driving in Ashfield

Broxtowe response officers stopped a car in Woodhouse Way, Kirkby, at around 2am this morning (Wednesday, July 21) and arrested a man after conducting a road-side drug swipe.

In custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of a burglary as a result of an investigation in to a shop burglary where £600 worth of alcohol and cigarettes were reportedly stolen.

A bathroom window of a flat above the store in Mansfield Road, Sutton, was smashed overnight.

The owner made the discovery when she returned there at around 7am on May 17.

Detective Sergeant Andy Hall of Nottinghamshire's dedicated burglary team said: "We have been carrying out robust enquiries since this incident happened.

"This, coupled with the work conducted by our eagle-eyed response colleagues, has resulted in a man being arrested in connection with it.

"Burglaries and robberies are taken extremely seriously and we will always carry out a thorough investigation in a bid to uncover who may be responsible.

"We are one of two dedicated burglary teams operating in the city and county and are supported in tackling burglary by response and neighbourhood officers, as well as a burglary enforcement Special Constable team.

"To be victim to an incident like this can be extremely distressing and we won't tolerate these crimes in Nottinghamshire.

"This case also highlights that the force is proactively targeting dangerous drivers on our roads.”

The man has been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.
