The arrest comes after Nottinghamshire Police responded to a report of the robbery which happened in Albert Street just before 10.40am on Friday (May 15).

The victim – a 73-year-old man – suffered pain to his shoulder and a graze to his elbow after he fell onto his back during the robbery. The pensioner’s wallet and a quantity of cash were stolen during the incident.

Detective Inspector Ed Cook from Nottinghamshire Police said: “These are despicable crimes which have targeted two elderly people as they were going about their daily lives and I must be clear that this is something that our officers absolutely will not tolerate in our county.

“While we suspect that these incidents may be connected, we are keeping an open mind at this stage of our enquiries.

“Today’s arrest is a positive step which has come as a direct result of our investigation into both incidents and means that our teams can now focus their attention on the investigation and supporting both victims."
