Speaking on Friday afternoon Carl Wright, assistant manager of The Junction pub - directly opposite Hamilton Road - said there were several police vehicles at the scene.

He said: “Around 10pm last night one unmarked police car turned up and then five minutes after four more police cars turned up. Then a riot van turned up.

“Police asked to see our CCTV. They have been there ever since. They were searching for something. They were on their hands and knees looking for something.

“It’s got to be something serious for them to have been there all night and still be there.”

Detectives are keen to trace anyone who saw anything unusual in the otherwise quiet area.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the Hamilton Road area at around 8.30pm last night, and who may have seen vehicles or people which looked out of place.

Anyone with information should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 830 of 16 October.
