Langwith dad admits refusing breath test

A LANGWITH dad refused to take a breathalyser test after trying to evade police, Chesterfield magistrates were told last Wednesday.

Martin Wardle (25), of Poulter Street, tried to kick start a bike when approached by police. Officers shouted for him to stop and both Wardle and the machine fell over. He then ran down an alleyway but returned soon afterwards.

Prosecutor Andrew Legge said Wardle smelled of alcohol and when he was searched officers found a wrap containing cannabis resin. He refused to take a breath test at Chesterfield Police Station.

Wardle admitted failing to provide a breath specimen, driving without insurance and possessing cannabis.

Sentence was adjourned for probation tests. In mitigation, it was said he had quit drinking since.
