A Kirkby man who stripped naked and demanded a woman have sex with him before fondling her has been jailed.

David Orton, of Lowmoor Road, was found guilty of sexual assault and assault following a trial at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

Prior to passing sentence, the court was told how Orton had got into the argument with the woman, who can not be named for legal reasons, on 16th March and had slapped her in the face leaving a red mark.

He then stripped down and stood in a doorway and said he was going to have sex with her, adding ‘the police can’t do anything about it’.

The 51-year-old then fondled her breasts.

He denied the allegations and was taken to trial where he was found guilty.

Defending, Andrew Hollis, said his client had been terrified of going to jail and asked if the judge would consider a suspended sentence.

However, District Judge Diane Baker said an immediate prison sentence was her only option.

She said: “I can’t give you any credit, you were convicted after a trial.

“It’s had a very serious effect on this woman, her wellbeing and general health.

“It was to belittle this lady rather than gain any sexual gratification.

“It was particularly serious because of the deliberate control towards her.

“You have a previous caution for sexual assault and you have shown no remorse and taken no responsibility for your offending.

“In my view, custody is the only appropriate sentence.”

Orton was given 10 weeks’ jail for the sexual assault, and two further weeks for the assault.

He was handed a two-year restraining order and will also have sign on the sex offenders’ register for seven years.
