Inquest opens into death of man allegedly murdered in Shirebrook

A coroner has opened an inquest into the death of a man who was allegedly murdered at an allotment in Shirebrook.

Police were called to the allotment off Prospect Drive at around 10am on January 26 and found the body of 55-year-old Andrew Jackson.

Giving evidence at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court today, Detective Constable Kate Reeves, of Derbyshire Constabulary, said Mr Jackson lived in a caravan at the allotment.

Coroner Peter Nieto said provisional post-mortem tests found Mr Jackson ‘may have died from the effects of an assault’.

Mr Nieto adjourned the inquest until June 9.

Since last Thursday, police have arrested six people on suspicion of murdering Mr Jackson.

A 51-year-old woman, a 44-year-old man and a 26-year-old man have since been bailed.

Three other men, aged 27, 37 and 39, remain in police custody.
