House burglar who assaulted his victim in Sutton arrested

A man has been arrested for burglary after he assaulted his victim before robbing him.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after entering a house via an unlocked door and demanding the victim gave him items.

The incident happened on Nesbitt Street in Sutton around 1am this morning (May 14) following a report of the burglary.

The resident had gone to bed when the man jumped on him and slapped him across the face, pushed him, before taking a phone charger, a small amount of money, two packets of tobacco and a gold wedding ring.

Officers were called after neighbours heard men talking about breaking into a property.

The man was quickly arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Detective Sergeant Andy Hall said: "This must have been a traumatic experience for the victim and thankfully he only suffered minor injuries”

"We made a quick arrest earlier this morning and the man remains in police custody."
