Grieving drug driver smelled of cannabis in Mansfield

A grieving drug driver was more than four times over the limit when Mansfield police smelled cannabis on him, a court has heard.

Marcin Stysial's Ford Focus was pulled over during a routine stop check, on Woodhouse Road, at 9pm, on November 12, last year.

There was no bad driving, but officers smelled cannabis and a subsequent test revealed he had 9.1 mcgs in one litre of blood, when the specified limit is 2 mcgs.

Simon Walton, mitigating, said: "He was cooperative and assisted with the enquiries.

"It will have a significant impact as he will find it difficult to get to his job now.

"It happened two days after the death of his grandmother and he was trying to get back to Poland for the funeral.

"He didn't feel incapacitated but the law is there for a reason."

Stysial, 25, of Westfield Lane, Mansfield, was fined £311, and ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He was banned for 12 months.
