Glasses and handbag used as weapons in violent Ollerton pub brawl

Glasses and a handbag were used as weapons during a violent brawl in an Ollerton pub which led to four people appearing in court.

The incident was sparked by Matthew Boyles in the Plough Inn, on May 3 last year, said Gareth Gimson, prosecuting.

CCTV showed another man trying to separate him from Leanne Farr before her husband Ian grabbed Boyles and Boyles shoved him back.

Boyles swung a glass into Mr Farr’s face and Mrs Farr threw a drink over Boyles.

Mr Farr shoved Boyles into a sofa and pinned him down while Mrs Farr hit him three times with her handbag.

Chloe Marshall tried to drag Boyles away and struck Mr Farr over the back of his head with a glass jug.

Mr Farr threw more blows at Boyles and tried to drag his wife away. Other people left the pub as the struggling defendants ended up on the floor.

Boyles was left with a bloody and swollen face and Mr Farr was bleeding from the back of his head and sustained cuts to his chin

Lauren Manuel said Mr Farr was on a rare night out with his wife and tried to ignore what was going on around him but was glassed twice.

"He accepts he lost it,” she said. “He was concerned for the safety of his wife. He is deeply ashamed to be before Your Honour. He has not been in trouble for 20 years."

Nottingham Crown Court heard Marshall and Mrs Farr have no previous convictions and deserved credit for their guilty pleas.

Declan Smith said Boyles entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity, shows genuine remorse and is deeply ashamed of himself.

On Thursday, May 21, Judge Robert Egbuna told Boyles he instigated the incident and was lucky Mr Farr didn’t sustain a more serious injury to his face.

Boyles, 33, of Dove Croft, Ollerton, received ten months, suspended for two years, with 120 hours of unpaid work.

Marshall, 29, of Lansbury Avenue, Ollerton received six months suspended for two years. Mr Farr, 48, of Yew Tree Road, Ollerton, received eight months, suspended for two years, with 20 rehabilitation days. Mrs Farr, 43, received a two-year community order with 20 rehabilitation days.
