Food, milk and water poured over mother and daughter during Sutton-in-Ashfield burglary

Five men attacked a mother and daughter and poured food, milk and water over them during an aggravated burglary in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Nottinghamshire Police said high-valued Asian jewellery was also stolen in the incident, which took place on Vellus Court in Sutton-in-Ashfield at around 7pm on Monday.

Detective Sergeant Mark Shaw, who is leading the investigation, said: "This must have been a very frightening experience for those involved.

"The victims suffered injuries and an ambulance was called.”

As yet, no arrests have been made in connection with the burglary.

Detective Sergeant Shaw added: "Officers will be providing ongoing support for the family as a team of detectives work tirelessly to trace those responsible.

"Burglary is an extremely invasive crime and has huge impacts for those involved, both homeowners and retailers who, in particular, are already facing various challenges in the current climate.”

The men reportedly knocked on the door then attacked the victims with a long metal stick.

Officers will be searching the area today as part of their investigations and police have also appealed to the public for information.

Detective Sergeant Shaw said: "We are following up a number of lines of enquiry to get these men in custody but I would appeal for anyone who has information, CCTV or dash-cam footage of anything suspicious in the area to come forward as soon as possible especially between the times of 6pm and 7.15pm.

"Anyone with information is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 548 of 25 January 2021."
