Five Mansfield Woodhouse revellers were fined £200 each after being caught at a house party - breaking lockdown rules.

Police say the partygoers at the house on Lawrence Avenue - aged between 28 and 48 - were rude to officers and attempted to provide false details during the incident last night (Friday).

Penalties were handed out across the city and county during the previous evening.

On Thursday a man was fined £10,000 after organising a bonfire night party for more than 30 people in Top Valley, Nottingham.

While elsewhere in the city 16 £200 fines were handed out to students at two parties in Shakespeare Street and Hart Street.

Assistant Chief Constable Kate Meynell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The majority of residents in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire are continuing to adhere to the coronavirus legislation and I thank them for that.

“However there consistently appears to be a small number of people who think that the law does not apply to them and this needs to stop.

“The fact that our officers are having to attend unnecessary parties where the disease can easily spread and have a massive impact on our communities is unacceptable.

“We have shown time and time again that we will enforce this legislation where necessary and the message is clear that if you choose to hold an illegal gathering we will take action.

“I’d like to thank the majority of the public once again for their cooperation and understanding through this incredibly difficult time."
