Face of hapless Mansfield drug dealer who smashed getaway car into pothole at 80mph

Luke Evans, aged 32 of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, appeared in Nottingham Crown Court last Thursday where he admitted to charges including possessing class A drugs with the intent to supply and dangerous driving. The court ordered Evans to serve a minimum of 7 years behind bars and banned him from driving for 3 years.

On Sunday, January 12, Mr. Evans was spotted driving an uninsured Ford Mondeo and failed to stop the car when requested to do so by police. During the pursuit, Evans reached speeds of 80 mph before crashing the vehicle into a pothole. After crashing the car, Mr. Evans was helped out of the wreckage by police officers, arrested and taken to hospital where he was treated for a fractured neck, elbow and knee.

Police were also called to the holiday cabin he was renting after reports of a stolen car using different license plates on the front and back were made. It was discovered that the car had been taken during a burglary and the number plates had been stolen from Tibshelf, Derbyshire.

Once Mr. Evans was held in connection with the car and number plate thefts, officers searched the holiday cabin and found 600 grams of cocaine and more than 4 kilograms of amphetamines, heroin and cannabis valued at £130,000, as well as £12,000 cash hidden inside.

Mr. Evans had spent the last 11 months on the run having been arrested on March 24, 2019, when he failed to answer bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Broadhead, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Drug crime can have a devastating effect impact on people’s lives and Nottinghamshire Police will continue to locate and prosecute those who seek to deal drugs, and ensure they are brought to justice.

“I am pleased that Evans will have to face the consequences of his actions and hope this sends a message that drug supply will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire”.
