Elderly women injured after street robbery in Sutton

Two elderly women have been injured after a street robbery in Sutton.

The women, aged 87 and 86, are believed to have been assaulted and a handbag containing keys and cash was taken before the attacker or attackers drove off in a car.

The victims were found in the middle of the road with cuts and swelling to the head following the incident in Woods Hill at around 6.30pm yesterday (Wednesday October 10). They were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre with minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Matt Scott said: "Fortunately the women's injuries were not serious but they have been left extremely shaken by the incident.

"This is a cowardly attack on two vulnerable women and I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen something to come forward.

"We are following a number of lines of enquiry but all information we receive will help the investigation.

"We are particularly looking to trace the car used in the incident which may have been blue or dark coloured.

"We’re carrying out extra patrols in the area, to provide reassurance to the public, while our investigations continue."
