A young motorist looks set to lose his job after admitting ‘having a couple of pints with a meal’ and then getting in his car.

Ashley Homer, 24, of Dronley Drive, Church Warsop, admitted a charge of drink driving at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

Patrolling officers had noticed his Vauxhall Astra being driven at speed and erratically just after midnight on September 16.

When they pulled him over he was found to have 55mcgs in 100mls of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

In court, he passed a letter from his boss at M&G Steel to the magistrates saying that the company would be left with ‘no option but to terminate his employment’ because part of his job is driving.

But he was given a 14-month ban, fined £500 and told to pay £275 costs.
