Officers from the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit likened the scene to that of a collision as they shared news of the arrest on their Twitter page on Friday night alongside pictures of the black Audi with nearly half of the bumper and bonnet missing.

The post read: “This is not an image from the scene of a collision but infact an image of a car which the drink driver behind the wheel continued to drive it. Words fail us."

Checks on the driver revealed they were over the legal limit but also wanted on warrant by officers from South Yorkshire Police for harassment.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the current legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, or 107 milligrams per 100 millilitres of urine – while limits differ in Scotland.
