Graeme Perks, 65, was stabbed in his chest and abdomen at his home in Halem, near Southwell, on Thursday, January 14.
Jonathan Peter Brooks, 56, of Landseer Road, Southwell, is charged with attempted murder, three counts of attempted arson with intent to endanger life, and possession of a knife in a public place.
Brooks appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 18 and was remanded into custody until his next appearance before Nottingham Crown Court on February 15.
Mr Perks is currently in a serious but stable condition at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre, police have confirmed.
Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed that they are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
The men were colleagues at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
A trust spokesperson said: "This incident has affected many of our staff who worked closely with, and are friends with Graeme.”
