RAIDERS who smashed into a Derbyshire convenience store set off a smoke cloak that filled the shop with a thick fog.

CCTV shows two men arrive at the One Stop Store, on Nottingham Road, Alfreton, and break glass at the front door.

As they get into the building it fills with smoke and the men are seen leaving.

It is unknown whether they managed to take anything before fleeing in the silver Vauxhall Astra CCTV.

The break-in took place at 10.30pm, on Friday, December 6, and the camera catches the car leaving in the direction of Somercotes.

The store was closed at the time.

A police spokesman said: “The smoke cloak is a crime prevention tool that fills a room with smoke if it is triggered during a break-in.

“We have been handed CCTV images of the incident and we also have a footprint from inside the shop close to the cigarette counter.

“This store clearly takes its crime prevention very seriously and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to call us on 101.”
