Dangerous driver who tried to outrun Mansfield cops was caught with large quantity of cash
A dangerous driver who tried to escape from Mansfield police along a dusty country road in the middle of the night was caught with a large quantity of cash.
Nthambi Mkanda was pulled over by two unmarked police cars after ANPR cameras flagged his number plates were potentially linked to drug offences in the Ravenshead area.
Becky Allsop, prosecuting, said the unmarked cars parked in front and behind his vehicle on Chatsworth Drive, Mansfield, just after midnight on April 7, last year.
Mkanda reversed into the car behind him, drove up onto the grass verge and fled along an unmarked and unmade road, bouncing around until he came to a stop, got out and ran off.

He was apprehended hiding nearby with a large quantity of cash.
Finn Butler, mitigating, said the defendant didn't make contact with the police cars and there is no suggestion any damage was caused.
“It wasn’t a particularly high speed chase,” he said. “It seems 38mph was what they got up to. It was a country road with no other vehicles around.”
Mkanda was recalled to prison to serve the remainder of an existing sentence which expires in December 2027.
“He pleads guilty at the earliest opportunity and has no relevant previous convictions,” Mr Butler added.
“I would invite you to suspend any sentence on the basis he has already done 12 months in custody.”
Mkanda, aged 28, currently of HMP Morton Hall, Swinderby, Lincolnshire, admitted dangerous driving when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, via video link, on Wednesday.
He received a 24-week prison sentence and must pay £239 in court costs. He was banned for 18 months.
