Dangerous driver punished by court after incident in Mansfield

Suspicious of the car, they then illuminated their blue lights in Jenkins Avenue and attempted to pull it over.

But on seeing the police, Harris sped away, mounting an area of grass before re-joining the road in Bailey Crescent.

He continued at speeds of up to 50mph before he was caught on Ladybrook Lane and arrested.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, Harris, of Layton Burroughs, was given a 12-month community order and a 15-month driving ban for dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Detective Constable Melanie Young, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This as an appalling display of driving that put the lives of other road users and pedestrians at risk.

“Happily this pursuit was bought to a swift conclusion and nobody was hurt – but things could have worked out very differently.

“Dangerous driving can have a devastating impact not only on the lives of people who are harmed by it, but also on the lives of people who – in a moment of madness – drive in such a reckless and irresponsible way.

“The consequences of losing your licence or getting a criminal conviction can be devastating but are nothing compared to the consequences if killing or seriously injuring another person.

“At Nottinghamshire Police will never accept people who drive in such a fashion and will do all we can to bring them to justice.”
