Clipstone man made violent threats against Mansfield MP on Facebook

A 64-year-old Clipstone man who repeatedly made violent threats against Mansfield MP Steve Yemm on Facebook must wait until October to be sentenced, a court has heard.
Bryn Jones, of Squires Lane, Kings Clipstone, admitted harassment - put in fear of violence, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Tuesday, August 18.
Court documents allege he “caused Stephen Yemm to fear that violence would be used against him by your course of conduct which you knew or ought to have known would cause fear of violence to Stephen Yemm on each occasion in that you repeatedly made comments towards him on Facebook.”
Ben Payne, prosecuting, asked for the case to be adjourned as Mr Yemm wants to read out a victim impact statement in court which is his right.
And because the offence has a starting point of 12 weeks and a range between a high-level community order to 36 weeks in custody, he anticipated magistrates would want “some insight from the probation service.”
Ian Pridham, mitigating, also requested an adjournment as he took “the view the court will take this more seriously,” and the risk Jones poses will have to be assessed.
Jones has one previous convictions from 17 years ago and is 64-years-old, he added.
Magistrates adjourned the case to October 8 and granted Jones unconditional bail until that date.
