Clever police dogs sniff out Kirkby car theft suspects

Clever police dogs helped arrest two people in connection with a car theft in Kirkby.

Police were called to Rowan Drive at around 10pm last night (Sunday, June 28) after a car was reported to have been stolen from outside a house.

The stolen car was spotted by eagle-eyed officers who then moved to safely stop the vehicle.

The car was then abandoned and police dogs were deployed to help search for suspects.

Moments later, a man and a woman, aged 39 and 29, were arrested.

Ashfield Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Mark Dickson said: “These arrests are a fantastic example of how our dog handlers and police dogs work together to achieve positive results.

“We were able to recover the stolen car and return it to the owner as part of our enquiries and will now work to establish the circumstances around this incident.

“Nottinghamshire Police takes all reports of burglary very seriously and will investigate all reports thoroughly.”
