Ashfield man assaulted his ex in a row where he accused her of sleeping with one of his friends

Christopher Russell had been at the woman’s home when the argument occurred and slapped her twice and then kicked a child’s stair gate at her which hit her in the stomach, Nottingham Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday, March 24.
Prosecuting, Annalli Pritchard, told the court: “She had previously been in a relationship but there had been problems in the past and the incident took place at her home address.

Hide Ad“He had called and she had said that she didn’t want him to come home, but she eventually relented and went to fetch him.
“They put their two children to bed and they were going to go downstairs and talk about their relationship. It got heated - they had moved to a new address and she wasn’t happy there.
“There had been a discussion about her having a relationship with one of his friends and he slapped her a couple of times on the stairs.
“He then kicked the stair gate and it flew off and struck her in the stomach.”

Hide AdRussell, 34, of Rowan Drive, Kirkby, admitted assault when he appeared before the court, which took place on November 17 last year.
Magistrates fined him £300 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
Speaking in his own defence, Russell told the court: “It sounds bad but it wasn’t as bad as it sounds.
“It didn’t get overheated like the prosecution says. I think £300 is a bit steep.”
