Dumped over a steep embankment leading down to the A38 off Jephson Road, it consisted of mainly industrial waste including paint cans, rubble and plastic waste.

It was brought to the attention of the council by a Leamington resident.

Council officers attended the scene as quickly as possible to scour the site for evidence, before the environment team cleared the site using specialist equipment.

Coun Jason Zadrozny, council leader, said: “This is one of the worst cases of fly tipping I have ever seen in 13 years as a councillor.

“The council felt the same.

“I’d like to thank the council’s environment team, who undertook the dangerous and difficult task of clearing the waste.

“Specialist equipment had to be used as the rubbish was dumped on a steep embankment.

“Unfortunately, on this occasion, we were unable to find any evidence to trace the culprits, but I want the perpetrators to heed this warning that we will not tolerate fly tipping in the district and will have no hesitation in prosecuting those that are caught.”

Fly tipping in the district has recently gone down 15 per cent, saving the Council £10,000.

Coun Zadrozny continued: “We have just finished our most successful spring clean ever so it’s disappointing that this has been dumped so soon after.”

“The council takes fly tipping seriously.

“We have a number of cases and individuals that will be taken to the magistrates court in the next few months for prosecution, following investigations by our environment team.

“Past cases have resulted in fines and in one case a custodial sentence.

“Fly tipping is a blight on our community.

“We offer many ways for residents to dispose of their waste responsibility including the big spring clean and bulky waste collections.

“Later in the summer we’ll be running Skip into Summer providing even more ways for residents to dispose of their waste.

“Remember, disposing of your waste legally is your responsibility, if you’re using waste carriers ensure they have a licence before using them.”
