They then snatched a set of keys which were then used to unlock and drive away the van parked directly outside.

The theft wasn’t discovered until the following afternoon on January 31, at which point the owner alerted the police.

Response officers recovered the stolen van on February 1, while continuing to conduct inquiries in the community.

Based on this, officers from the county priority tasking team visited a Mansfield property to try and locate a suspect.

A 37-year-old man was duly found and detained inside the address by the team, around 9.40am on February 4.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

PC Neil Davison, of Nottinghamshire Police’s county priority tasking team, said: “We were out on patrol in Mansfield when the identity of a suspect in a burglary was circulated to us.

“Realising he lived nearby, we visited the property immediately and were able to place him under arrest.

“This was a great example of our policing teams working together to get a good result.

“In this case, our response colleagues managed to recover a stolen vehicle and identify a suspect, before we were then able to assist with the arrest.

“We know how much of a negative impact burglaries can have on those targeted, so it was pleasing to be able to achieve a positive outcome.”
