Detective Sergeant Matt Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Incidents involving the reported use of firearms are always treated with utmost seriousness and will nearly always generate an immediate repose by armed officers.

“It doesn’t matter whether the gun is real or not – we have to assume that it is real and act accordingly.

“I am pleased this incident was brought to a swift and safe conclusion and would like to thank the officers involved for their swift and professional response.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call the force on 101.
