Amazon worker stole £13K of computer devices from Sutton warehouse

An Amazon worker who stole just over £13,000 of computer components and storage devices from a warehouse in Sutton has been sentenced.

Simon Parsons took a total of 46 items from EMA2, on Summit Park, on Sherwood Way South, between February 6 and March 6, last year, said prosecutor Sarah Angus.

An investigation was sparked after an empty packet was found on a robot and Parsons admitted taking the goods when he was challenged by a loss prevention officer.

A search of his locker revealed £2,503 of items and Parsons, who had been working there for just under three years, has since been dismissed.

The court heard he has one previous conviction but it wasn't for theft and it was committed in 2008.

Morgan Hogarth, mitigating, said he should be treated as a man of effective good character, and he deserves full credit for his early guilty plea.

A probation officer said he may have undiagnosed neuro-diversity and is awaiting a referral to be confirmed.

“This may have affected his ability to think clearly,” Mr Hogarth added. “He is working and contributing towards his sister’s family.

He argued any prison sentence should be suspended because of his strong personal mitigation and the strong prospect of his rehabilitation.

Parsons, aged 36, of Hardy Lane, Calow, admitted theft by employee when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on December 16.

The case was adjourned until Thursday when he received a 12-month community order, with 120 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay £1,200 compensation because of his means.
