“Abhorrent” robber sentenced after raid on elderly victim's home in Mansfield

A robber has been sentenced after tricking her way into an elderly man's home in Mansfield and stealing his phone.

The victim, who is aged in his 80s, was inside his Mansfield flat in the early hours of 17 March 2025 when he heard a knock at the window.

When he went to investigate, the man was confronted by Georgina Ward who said she was ill and needed help.

While the victim tried to call her an ambulance, the 37-year-old offender barged her way into the flat and started rummaging through his pockets.

A robber has been sentenced after tricking her way into an elderly man's home and stealing his phone.

She grabbed his iPhone before pushing the front door into him with such force that the pensioner was knocked to the floor.

Ward rifled through the man's living room drawers before fleeing the property, while the victim crawled to his landline to call the police.

Officers attended the scene and armed with a description of the offender, quickly located Ward in Babworth Court.

They recovered the stolen phone when Ward was searched and she was arrested less than an hour after committing the offence.

Ward, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to robbery and at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (July 17) she was sentenced to 18 months in jail, suspended for two years.

Detective Constable Alan Morton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Targeting an elderly and vulnerable resident by tricking him in this way was an appalling crime.

"The victim was left confused and violated after Ward forced her way into his home.

"She then grabbed his mobile phone and barged him to the floor.

"Officers who attended did a great job to locate her so quickly and recover the stolen phone.

"I'm pleased she has now been brought to justice and hope she reflects on her abhorrent behaviour."
