10 of the world's most bizarre laws

The law is often seen as another language - one which only a chosen few can understand.

But some of its strangest examples from around the world defy logic, nevermind international borders.

Apparently, it’s illegal to change a light bulb unless you’re a licensed electrician there.

Those who defy this law can face fines of up to AU$10 (£5.50).

2. Citizens of Milan must smile at all times or face a fine

The Italian city enforces smiling on all days except funerals or hospital visits.

You do wonder why it was deemed more acceptable during other days of the week. It should surely be forbidden on Sundays.

4. It is illegal to die in England’s Houses of Parliament

This was voted the most ludicrous law in the UK in 2007. Two things come to mind.

The first is that, how could you know the exact time and date of the grim reaper’s visit, and if you did, would you really decide to call in at the Houses of Parliament on that day?

5. It is against the law to have a sleeping donkey in your bathtub in Oklahoma after 7pm

6. One out of every five songs on the radio must be sung by a Canadian in Canada

Great to see that the lawmakers of Canada support their artists - even if one of them is Justin Bieber.

7. Japan has set a maximum waistline of 31ins

This applies to every man aged over 40. Woman cannot measure over 35ins.

This law is crazy. If repeated flushing is a concern, there should be sub-clauses with regard to what was eaten that evening.

9. It is against the law to eat in a place that’s on fire in Chicago.

No matter how good a meal is, it’s never worth dying for.

10. On Germany’s autobahn running out of petrol is illegal - and so is walking along it

Those who do break down must pull over and use their horn to attraction attention. The penalty is €80 (£65) for endangering other drivers.
