Crews attend blaze at derelict Shirebrook pub

Firefighters are currently tackling a massive blaze at a derelict pub in Shirebrook.

Six pumps from stations around the area were called to the blaze at the White Swan public house, in Portland Road, following a call to emergency services at around 4.20pm today (Saturday, 28th September).

A high-rise appliance was also called to the incident, which Derbyshire Fire and Rescue described as ‘ongoing’ when contacted by the Chad at around 7pm.

Appliances from Mansfield and Warsop were returned to base and a spokesman said they were fighting the fire defensively - spraying it with water to make it safe.

“The building is derelict but does have a reputation for being used by homeless people,” a spokesman said. “However, we do not believe that there was anyone inside when the fire caught.

“We have now slightly downscaled the operation but still have four appliances at the scene.”

It is not known at this stage how the fire started or details of any casualties.
