Creswell: Schoolboy Hugo Lockwood cooks up a storm in CBBC’s Junior MasterChef

Ten-year-old Hugo Lockwood, who attends Scarcliffe Primary School, is currently on the cookery show where he has to compete against other junior chefs to wow celebrity judges with his different dishes.

The aim of the competition is to find the best young chef in Britain.

Celebrity chefs John Torode and Donal Skehan are judging the competition.

Hugo’s mum Melissa Lockwood said: “ I didn’t know Hugo was applying for the show. He asked me to sign something in a rush and I saw it had CBBC on the top so knew it would be harmless.”

A couple of weeks later, Melissa got a surprising phone call from the BBC saying Hugo had made it onto Junior Master Chef.

Melissa said:“It was a bit of a surprise because this was the first I had heard of Hugo applying for the competition.”

“From a young age he has always been adventurous with his food and has always liked cooking.”

“We are all so proud of Hugo and he spent a lot of time in the kitchen practising his dishes and timings on us.”

Hugo who has twin brother, Riley, is the eldest of four children.

Melissa added: “Riley has been very supportive of his twin brother and he is very proud of him.”

“The standards in the competition are so high and what Hugo has done is a massive achievement.”

Hugo said he gets his inspiration for cooking from his mum.

The programme is being shown now on CBBC every weekday at 4.30 pm.
