‘Cowboy’ warning to residents

Mansfield and Ashfield residents are being warned about bogus cold-callers giving the impression that they are from Nottinghamshire County Council offering to carry out driveway repairs.

Both the authority’s Trading Standards team and Nottinghamshire Police have received a report from resident of a trader offering to use leftover tarmac to do repairs on properties.

The council is stressing that such traders are not from the authority or a contractor used by the authority and recommends that residents ignore cold-callers.

Community safety spokesman Coun Glynn Gilfoyle said: “Cowboy traders often pretend that they are from a trusted organisation such as the county council to win over people’s confidence but don’t be fooled. A good tactic to avoid a doorstep caller’s sales pitch is to tell them you are renting your house so you cannot give them permission to do any work.”
