Coveted award for Mansfield guide leader

A guide leader from Mansfield has been awarded Girlguiding’s ultimate accolade for demonstrating leadership and community action.

Jennifer Hind, 27, who is leader of the 1st Forest Town Guides, was presented with the Queen’s Guide Award by chief guide Gill Slocombe at a special ceremony held at Goldsmiths’ Hall, in London.

The award sets members a series of challenges. Jennifer chose tasks including travelling to an international guiding centre in Switzerland, taking part in Girlguiding’s national youth forum and helping at international jamborees.

Jennifer, who works at Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest and is studying for a MSc in Human Resource Management at Nottingham Trent University, said: “I would never have gone to Switzerland with a group of friends before working toward my award – and I certainly wouldn’t have ventured up Alps and swam in Alpine lakes!

“It’s made me realise that I can offer much more to guiding and give young girls the opportunity to grow and try new things.”
