County Elections 2013: Ashfield results in

Labour have made gains in the Ashfield area as the votes are counted up following yesterday’s Nottinghamshire County Council elections.

Labour took all three seats in Hucknall, with John Wilmott, John Wilkinson and Alice Grice ousting the sitting councillors, including current portfolio holder, Conservative Kevin Rostance.

Former county councillor David Kirkham is returning to County Hall after taking Sutton Central from Liberal Democrat councillor Michelle Gent.

She was beaten into fourth place, with UKIP’s Ian Stokes in second, but with only around half the votes of Labour.

Twenty-year-old Tom Hollis is the new Liberal Democrat councillor for Sutton West, beating Labour’s Natalie Fleet by more than 600 votes.

Kirkby South was retained by the Liberal Democrats’ Rachel Madden while party leader Jason Zadrozny also kept his seat in Sutton North.

Ashfield District councillor leader John Knight was re-elected for Kirkby North for Labour, while fellow Labour member Steve Carroll retained Sutton East.

Long-standing councillor Gail Turner was again elected to represent the Selston ward for the Selston Area Independents.
