Council's concerns over Aldi store plans

A neighbouring district council has raised its concerns over the controversial plans to build an Aldi on the edge of Mansfield.

The plans for the store on Oakleaf Close, close to the Rainworth bypass, were given permission last year, but then stopped by a high court judge last month after he felt more consideration was required for Mansfield town centre.

The application will now go back to Mansfield District Council’s planning committee for further discussion.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has since written a brief letter to Mansfield saying that because the proposed site is just two kilometres from its own boundary, its impact on towns and villages within its own catchment area should also be ‘robustly assessed’.
