A DISTRICT councillor and Mansfield Town fan has refused to renew his season ticket because he says supporters have too much difficulty parking on matchdays.

Coun Martin Wright has taken a refund on his season ticket after he claims the club failed to provide him with any answers over fans parking near the One Call Stadium on matchday.

Mansfield Town has said the club does everything it can to help fans park on matchdays but Coun Wright wants the club to negotiate with car parks nearby One Call Stadium in a bid to ease costs for supporters.

“Portland Retail Park car park is 90 per cent empty 52 weeks a year but fans cannot safely park there without risk of a parking ticket,” he said.

Coun Wright says the club should reach an agreement with car parks so supporters can buy a parking sticker for the season - otherwise he fears fans will stay away this season.

A Mansfield Town FC spokesman said: “The club has a number of recommended sites which many fans use to park on a home matchday.

“The club will assist supporters in any way we can to help fans locate a suitable parking site for what promises to be another exciting season.”
