Council workers have been praised after they gave up their time off to help out at The Diamond Centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
Ashfield District Council staff, Gillian Welch, Donna Mellar, John Tattesfield, Barbara Woodhouse and Stewart Woodhouse, all headed down to the centre on Diamond Avenue and rolled up their sleeves to help prepare the community facility for its grand opening on November 27.
Fellow volunteer, Darren Renshaw, said: “As a charity their effort, endeavour and support is really humbling.
“Although not the most glamorous of jobs and sometimes and a bit dirty, they have been prepared to roll up their sleeves and have had an incredible attitude.
“Their effort will make a real difference to people with disabilities, older people and carers’ lives but also to the community as a whole.
“Folks sometimes say that our area has lost its sense of community spirit? I’d suggest it’s alive and well.
“There is no better example of people supporting their community than getting out there and volunteering.
“A big thank you to them all.”
