Government plans to introduce a new interactive rating system for residential care homes across the country have been welcomed by Nottinghamshire County Council.
The Government has announced proposals which are intended to improve standards in older persons homes and safeguard against mistreatment.
They include the creation of a new ‘Trip Advisor’ style website which residents and their relatives can use to provide feedback and report any areas of concern.
A ratings system will allow people to compare how different homes are performing.
Any allegations or poor care standards could be used as the basis for an investigation by the regulator, the Care Quality Commission and the local authority.
Coun Kevin Rostance, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health said: “Families need to know that the home they are entrusting with their elderly relative with will treat them with dignity and respect.
The Government proposals will form the basis of a white paper due out in Spring 2012.
